From stage to page
Melody Lemond spent her early years as a contemporary dancer in Australia, where movement, music, and emotion became a single language. She performed her own self-choreographed work in venues across Australia and the United States — always searching for a way to make the invisible visible, to give shape to the things that resist easy words.
This experience never left her. When she began to write, the same instincts surfaced — rhythm, gesture, breath — only now they lived in sentences and verse. The stage became the page. The choreography became the story.

A world of many genres
Melody’s writing refuses to sit in one room. Fantasy and romance share space with poetry and metaphysics; coming-of-age tenderness meets futuristic imagination and a deep hope for fresher futures for the planet. Her work carries a distinctly female perspective and a quietly feminist undercurrent — the conviction that a woman’s imagination is not decoration but engine, not escape but essential instrument.
The thread that holds it all together is a sense of wonder — the feeling that the ordinary world is always one breath away from becoming luminous.

The published works
Sea Moon Poemshapes gathered her tidal, shape-shifting poetry — verse that curls like surf and glows like a low moon, illustrated throughout with colourful original artwork. Scarlet Fan followed: a vivid metaphysical fantasy story, equally enriched with Melody’s own visual direction.
Both books reveal a writer unafraid of beauty, unafraid of wonder, and deeply committed to the idea that a book should be an experience as much as a story.
What’s next
Ballet of the Birds — dance and fantasy, fully together
Her upcoming novel, Ballet of the Birds, brings dance and fantasy fully together for the first time. Born initially as a screenplay — which garnered recognition from two U.S.-based screenplay competitions — the story follows a young woman named Gina as she escapes a Catholic boarding school and steps into a whimsical, mystical Australia, guided by celestial beings and moving toward her defining dream: the co-creation of a magnificent theatre spectacle.
Now happily retired from dance, Melody devotes her creative energy to writing and to life with her children and grandchildren. The stories keep coming. The choreography continues — just in a different form.
